Strategy: Table Jigsaw
Basics
Time: Varies (approx 30 minutes) Room Arrangement: Small groups of 4 students Materials: Table Jigsaw sheet (one per student) Process Directions
1. Divide students into groups of four. 2. Within the groups, label each student with one of the following titles: why, what, how, and when. 3. Pass out the Table Jigsaw papers to each student. 4. Ask students to take notes during an activity about ONLY their specific label (why, what, how, or when). 5. After the activity is over, the groups should discuss their notes and 'teach' the other students in their group about their specific label. 6. After groups have discussed, the teacher may wish to discuss further as a class using this model. |
Example
While watching a movie, each student in a group could be listening/watching for one of the four items on the jigsaw paper. Students would take notes about only their item. After watching the movie, groups would discuss the movie by sharing their section of notes with the other students their group. After all groups have discussed the movie, the teacher could use this as a model for further group discussion.
