First Day of School Plan
To set a constructive classroom environment, it's important that teachers are prepared to start shaping the classroom atmosphere from the very first day of school. I've set up a tentative plan of the information I'd like to cover with my class on our first day of school. I also have a ten minute script of the things I'd like to say in the first ten minutes of class time. To view those two aspects of the first day of school, check out the sub-tabs Opening Script and Agenda.
The set-up of the classroom on the first day and the arrival of the students and parents will play a key role in the first day of school, as well. The text below includes information about that:

Classroom Arrangement - On the first day of school, the desks in the classroom will be set up in pairs and rows, rather than in groups. Each student will have one other person next to them for comfort, but only one other person to minimize distractions.
Set up - Each desk will have a student's name on it, as well as a piece of paper and a pencil. There will also be instructions for the first get-to-know-you assignment on the board. The instructions will ask the students to write down their answers to a few questions about themselves, like their name, favorite thing to do for fun, favorite food, favorite school subject, etc.
Arrival - As students arrive, I will be at the door to greet them and their parents. I will give each student and parent a hand shake as they enter, and instruct the student to find his/her name on a desk and begin working on the get-to-know-you assignment on the board. I will then give the parents my newsletter and ask them if there is anything specific they would like me to know about their child, and I'll ask if they have any questions for me.
As soon as all of the students have arrived, I will move on to my opening script.
